February: Black History Month + Valentine’s Day!
This month, I’ve been trying to teach my kids that we can love others by:
a) being an advocate for the least
b) celebrating our differences
In addition to reading lots of social justice books with my kids, I’ve recently added a few items to my wardrobe, that let me increase awareness through clothes. It’s a tiny thing, but it can be a great conversation starter!
Like the mug below, proceeds from my Zazzle store go to My New Red Shoes.
Act Justly, Love Mercy, Walk Humbly Necklace
This necklace is from a collaboration with Jen Hatmaker and Vintage Pearl. Proceeds go towards raising funds for Help One Now, a charity organization. To buy, click here for the link to the Vintage Pearl store.
I gave this necklace to my daughter when she was starting middle school. Actually, we had an awesome group of mothers and daughters that did Jen Hatmaker’s Brave Girl study together. Each girl received a necklace, so that they could remember to BE BRAVE by being kind, being you and loving Jesus. The necklaces are available from The Giving Keys. This company in LA employs those transitioning out of homelessness. Theirs is an amazing story.
Wine and Coffee Mug
It started with a dear friend who made me a mug…..which EVERYONE loved. So, I made my own version of the mug and posted it on Zazzle, thinking that I’d be the ONLY person buying it – and just to give to my friends. But, somehow, through the magic of the internet, others have found it! See details below, if you want to get your own!
All proceeds are going to My New Red Shoes, a charity founded by my dear friend, Heather Hopkins. They work to give the gift of confidence to homeless kids, providing them with a pair of new shoes at the start of the school year.
